I have constantly preached about the need for growth & embracing discomfort in my books, films & projects. At a certain point I realized that although this ideology is what defines me.. I wasn’t actually embracing it. I worked super hard to build a life in California that was meant to be comfortable most of all. I suffered creatively & more importantly I saw my kids suffer because of the time commitment that work required of me. When we moved to Iceland the commitment was terrifying to be honest. But I never fully grasped how hard of a commitment it would be for my two sons.. you see for @brea_face & I , learning the language is a bonus and something we strive for… but for my two sons, entering public school, entering a new neighborhood, new friends and ultimately having to embrace a new culture completely - learning the language ( one of the hardest in the world) and mysteries of Icelandic culture was/ is Survival. It’s a must to become integrated as a kid.

I guess what I’m saying is that I’m inspired daily by these two young explorers.. navigating a complicated world & demonstrating what it means to have personal growth in the most beautiful & vulnerable way. I appreciate this culture & the respect I have for the people is immense - I never imagined life would present an opportunity like this and I genuinely think the biggest determining factor was trying to provide a different way of seeing the world for my kids, than how I grew up. An opportunity that I would have given anything for. The hope or goal for me has always been that they can appreciate a broader perspective of this planet, and its people by seeing it through the eyes of a different culture.

Thanks for the rant.. I hope instagram can still be a place for authenticity and vulernable perspectives.
