When I was taking my first steps in Olympic weightlifting, when introducing me to the bar my trainer said:” the bar - is a living being and by stepping over it you’re showing it your disrespect. And trust me, it WILL remember this! So if you don’t want to experience payback when holding it over your head, show it respect and care and in general to everything you do in life!

aki_makkonen_ I usually buy my bar a drink or two after slamming it around for an hour. I'm slowly conditioning it to associate succesfull lifts with alcohol. Hoping it to get addicted and allowing me to constantly break pr's

demingdrew I was at a weightlifting competition once and one of the athletes would always walk forward over the bar after the lift was over. It always gave me that disrespected feeling. It was very awkward.
