While the two species look very similar, you can tell them apart thanks to differences in their coat, with the reticulated giraffe sporting finer white lines in its pattern. Typically, these beautiful animals roam the open grasslands across Africa in small groups of about half a dozen. Giraffes use their height to good advantage and browse on leaves and buds in treetops that few other animals can reach, relying on their 21-inch long tongue to help successfully secure each meal. With such a large home range, giraffes face a number of threats including hunting, habitat loss, drought, and armed conflict in unstable regions.
