Say hello to Bensar, a bald eagle @suttoncenter. The bald eagle is the only eagle unique to North America. As the national bird, the eagle’s look is iconic, with its distinctive brown body and white head and tail easily identifiable, even from a distance. This species once saw its numbers drop to 500 nesting pairs, but with people putting in decades of hard work, its population was able to recover. Today, the lower 48 states are home to over 5,000 nesting pairs! Illegal shooting of bald eagles is currently considered the biggest threat to their survival, but they are also threatened by lead poisoning as a result of eating ducks and other species that have consumed lead shot. Hunters can help lead the way for the continued conservation of bald eagles by choosing to hunt with steel or even copper ammunition. Check out the link in my bio for more information. #americaneagleday #baldeagle #northamerica #nationalbird #endangeredspeciesact #nonleadpartnership #photoark #savetogether

@mpfoxes They CAN support wetlands, but unfortunately the numbers suggest that they don’t. If hunters want ducks to hunt, then it benefits them to make sure the ducks and the land they live on is around forever. Are there jerks in the hunting community? Yes, just like there are jerks anywhere. But if one is going to eat meat, hunting is by far the most sustainable, environmentally friendly way to do it. I only mention eagles because the post featured one loooong ago at the start of all this.

It's been illegal to use anything but steel /tungsten shot for duck hunting for years. That being said, duck is an amazing dish and phenomenal game animal. Responsible hunters follow the rules. If you're using lead shot to duck hunt, you're also probably shooting at eagles, and not a hunter, more like poacher, which is scum, and I would report immediately.

@stuffinmyapartment People can support wetlands without actually killing innocent waterfowl or all the other animals that are accidentally killed. And don’t forget all the ‘hunters’ who do horribly cruel things so they can post pictures to troll PETA. It is still cruel and unnecessary to shoot other birds just because they are not bald eagles.

It's amazing how such incredible creatures still live among us. I hate it how people still hunt for sport, or even for food (unless they are poor, starving, etc.) because we still have grocery stores, and most people have enough food to sustain them without killing something so beautiful.

Such a beautiful and majestic creature!!? When I see one of them...and our beautiful American flag...my heart always skips a beat!!!???? And to think if it had been up to Ben Franklin...we would have had a turkey!!!? No, no, NO!!! ?

Don't understand. In 1991 lead shot was banned nationwide for all waterfowl hunting. Beside being a responsible hunter, why would any hunter want to poison the waterfowl and waterways where they hunt? That would be crazy.
