I so love Philip Kerr’s Bernie Gunther novels. They are like French Noir but English, set in Berlin at its seediest. Scottish born Kerr died prematurely last year, and must have been finishing this when he was ailing most. He left a wife and three children, and I feel selfish to say that I am sad never to have met this most extraordinary author. #philipkerr #quercuspublishing #detectivefiction #berlinnoir #metropolis #fritzlangsmetropolis

ted_maloney @ecsslo405 I just came back from Normandy where the 75th anniversary of D-Day was being celebrated. I was fortunate enough to meet some of the D-Day veterans. Talk about a humbling and sacred moment! If not for them, none of us would be here in this free world. Who are the next Heroes to save our freedom? They probably will not fight the war on the battlefield, but Instead at the voting booths.

bethel.brooke Very sad about his passing. I'm not familiar with his work but it sounds like it's right up my alley. Weimar Republic Berlin is always a fascinating backdrop. I lived in Berlin for a year in the mid 80s right before the Wall came down. As a history buff, I was like a kid in a candy store! I'm sure you've seen the 1931 Fritz Lang classic film "M" with Peter Lorre -- one of my favorires?

niryardennyc Thank you for this post, Like you, i felt tremendous sadness at the loss of Kerr and the end of Bernie Gunther, one of the all time great characters. To me , Gunther is a straight shot back to Chandler/Philip Marlowe, equally brilliant

nanciemaslanik It’s been my lifetime dream . I even have a The Who Logo tattooed on my outer left calf when The Who hit 50 .. I hit 50 . Got my tattoo at 50 . There is other extraordinary work done by them not Who related . Cheers @yaggerdang ✌️✌️
