Who biographer and archivist Matt Kent found this on eBay. My father Cliff’s band was THE SQUADRONAIRES. This was a Royal Air Force dance band formed during WW2 to raise morale. My Dad played Sax and clarinet. Before he joined the Squads he played with another smaller RAF band, led by Leslie Douglas who employed Betty Dennis, my pretty young mother-to-be as a singer. Les had a crush I think. So it turns out did my dad who was very handsome. My mother and father probably met at this concert and were soon married. Les later helped The Who (when in 1963 we were an amateur band called The Detours) by giving us the incredibly lucrative Sunday afternoon slot at the American Airforce Officers Club in London.
