Willem Blaeu and his son Joan worked as cartographers for the Dutch East India Company in the 17th-century, and this association meant they had access to both the latest information from explorers and a range of impressive Flemish artistic sources. Their maps and atlases were unparalleled, showing previously unchartered territory of the ‘new’ world. 🌎
