China is fast becoming the global center for surveillance — with countries around the world buying Chinese-made intelligent monitoring systems to track their citizens. We went to Ecuador, which installed one of these systems in 2011, to investigate how technology built for China’s political system is now being applied — and sometimes abused — by other governments.
