Kamagasaki (Portrait) Series: captions— 1) Policemen subduing a man due to his street fighting. 2) Soup kitchen. 3) Kazuya Shimamoto, 66, hangs with pigeons, as he often loves to do so rather than humans. 4) Men playing a "shogi" game. 5) A monumental site for a man who died alone at a roadside, called as “ikidaore.” Such roadside death is a sort of common in Kamagasaki. 6) Street party tributing to their friend who died alone in the tiny apartment and were found days later. Kamagasaki, Osaka, shot in March, 2019. Kamagasaki is often called as the worst slum and/ or the most dangerous place in Japan. Yet many of them are so friendly and naive. So this time for many images, I have taken so at least somehow. However, it is true that many of Kamagasaki residents love the drinking so much and often tend to take the street fighting. Also there is an open secret — many residents, so many of them retirees, who live in poverty, are often exploited in their welfare system, even jobs, by middle-men, local government’s corruptions and/ or Yakuza, Japanese mafia.
