Liberia marked two decades this August, since the end of its brutal second civil war that took the lives of more than 250,000 people. Many Liberian officials, as well as United Nation, are proud of the transition from war to peace in the nation-rebuilding. It is indeed incredible. However, more than half of Liberians still live below the poverty line. More than half of the school children are virtually out of school. In recent years, Ebola and COVID-19 epidemics devastated the health and economic status of many of the people. Russia-Ukraine War has also created Liberian life harder, as they face the high inflation. Corruption remains a serious problem. Moreover, many of former perpetrators in times of war are still with impunity and even part of the political elites now for the legislature and the judiciary. The fragile peace still continues. RIP, all the victims!
