Kamagasaki Portrait Series: Man chilling out in the early night at the site where his community friend was found dead by the roadside. Such a death is called “ikidaore” in Japanese. In Kamagasaki, it is said that few hundred people die in the ikidaore situation every year. Kamagasaki, Osaka, March, 2019. Kamagasaki is often called as the worst slum and/ or the most dangerous place in Japan. Yet many of them are so friendly and naive. So this time for many images, I have taken so at least somehow. However, it is true that many of Kamagasaki residents love the drinking so much and often tend to take the street fighting. Also there is an open secret — many residents, so many of them retirees, who live in poverty, are often exploited in their welfare system, even jobs, by middle-men, local government’s corruptions and/ or Yakuza, Japanese mafia.
