Kamagasaki Portrait Series: Hideki Haruta, 45, feels so emotional with lots of drinking, as he thinks he is leaving soon. He said someone offered home and job. Even though he knew the offer would be exploited, he decided to take it. And he was supposed to meet the person for leaving Kamagasaki. So, he went around the community for good-by, yet often resulted in with fighting, since people didn't understand what he was talking about. After all, the person or middle man didn't show up. Kamagasaki is often called as the worst slum and/ or the most dangerous place in Japan. Yet many of them are so friendly and naive. So this time for many images, I have taken so at least somehow. However, it is true that many of Kamagasaki residents love the drinking so much and often tend to take the street fighting. Also there is an open secret — many residents, so many of them retirees, who live in poverty, are often exploited in their welfare system, even jobs, by middle-men, local government’s corruptions and/ or Yakuza, Japanese mafia.
