There are moments when I look in the archive, becoming overwhelmed in remembering. During a story on Sacred Water for @ナショナルジオグラフィック, I went into the mountains of Ville Bonheur some 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, for the three-day religious ceremony of Saut D’Eau. This amazing spiritual event occurs to honor Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patron saint of Ville Bonheur (Happy Village), and Erzuli Dantor, a Vodou spirit associated with water, sometimes also portrayed as the Virgin Mary. I ruined two cameras under this waterfall, the second giving out moments after photographing this man deep in prayer, as if Christ nailed to the cross. I considered this water saturated moment as blessings to the cameras, for all the beauty it gave those days.

troianderson I remember you there. you had this blank trance-like stare into space after working incessantly throughout the falls which were transformed into a sacred theater. I went under the falls too and luckily my only camera somehow kept working.
