Welcome to the only place in the U.S. where women become Marines: Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. @lynseyaddario followed a handful of women here and photographed their journey through basic training. Today, women make up 8% of the @アメリカ海兵隊, the lowest percentage of any military branch. At #ParrisIsland, platoons are segregated by gender (excluding the India Company battalion), though men and women partake in some activities together, such as classroom courses. Women’s training, said Lt. Col. Misty Posey, is identical to the men’s — though they are graded differently on the physical fitness test.
