“Humans are so [expletive] stupid and boring and lazy that, given the gift of immortality, you’d never get around to doing anything,” said the director Taika Waititi while discussing his new show, “What We Do in the Shadows.” @taikawaititi, right, and Jemaine Clement adapted a 2014 mockumentary they created about #vampire roommates to develop the new show for @fxnetworks. The series follows a group of centuries-old #vampires who struggle with modernity on Staten Island. “The show is funny and silly, but it is about the sadness of eternal life,” said Paul Simms, one of the show’s executive producers. “There is a sadness about not letting go,” Jemaine added. #nytimes culture reporter Dave Itzkoff sat down with Taika, Jemaine and Paul to talk about their affection for the undead and the creation of the show.
