An ISIS bomber wrecked the Maiwand Wrestling Club in Kabul, Afghanistan, last September, killing dozens. Now the wrestlers have taken their revenge: They’ve rebuilt the gym and made it bigger, better and even busier than before. 2 former wrestlers — Paul Halsey, from Ridgefield, Connecticut, and Hooman Tavakolian, an Iranian-American investment manager in New York and London — came to the club’s rescue after reading our coverage by gathering @gofundme donations and support. Wrestling teams at universities like @pennstate and @uiowa kicked in; so did @NIKE, @adidas and @cliffkeenathletic. In all, they raised more than $10,000, Hooman said, which, along with donated gear, was enough to rebuild. Our #wrestlers “believe we need to show the terrorists that they can kill us, but they can’t stop us,” said Maalim Abbas, Maiwand’s head coach. @kianahayeri shot this photo.
