Want to spend your day lounging like the koala (Phascolarctos cinereus)? This Australian native sleeps as much as 18 hours per day! Often mistaken for a species of bear, this critter is actually a marsupial. A newborn hangs out in its mother’s pouch for about six months before emerging and spending the rest of its first year clinging onto her back or belly. It prefers forest or woodland habitats that are abundant in eucalyptus trees. In fact, eucalyptus leaves make up the majority of its diet.
