Say “hello” to the corsac fox (Vulpes corsac)! It’s native to the steppes and semideserts of central Asia, where it can endure for long periods without food and water. It’s not an effective digger but needs a deep den to hide out from predators and blizzards. So it makes its dens in marmot burrows, sometimes living side-by-side with others in what are known as “corsac cities,” or even sharing a single den among several individuals. That’s not the only way in which the corsac fox is more social than other fox species: it’s also been observed to hunt in small packs.

Fact: people originally domesticated this animal, but due to it being aggressive, it was classified as a wild animal instead
