You thought your love language was “gift giving”? Well, meet the male katydid. When these insects have sex, they create a highly nutritious green blob that they give to their female partner as a nuptial gift for her to eat. This blob weighs up to a third of the male’s body mass and is incredibly taxing to make, so the katydids don’t give it to just anyone. They make sure to pick someone special. So tell your partners that if they really loved you, they’d make you a personal 30+ pound snack after sex. To learn more about the wild mating habits of insects, watch evolutionary biologist Marlene Zuk’s #TEDTalk at go.ted.com/bugsex
