In @tmagazine | A group of young designers are not merely recycling — or even “upcycling,” as the contemporary design language goes. Instead they are re-envisioning garbage as both an abundant and largely untapped resource, one that can be manipulated via technology and artistry into new materials and objects that are beautiful in their own right. The table-cum-lamp pictured above is by @jamesmshaw with 3-D-printed algae “glass” vases and bowls by Studio Klarenbeek & Dros in collaboration with @luma_arles, made from microalgae and plant-based sugar. Swipe left to see @Sophie.Rowley’s Bahian Denim table, a material made from leftover scraps of jeans, in front of a poster by Jorges Penadés, made from a scan of his Structural Skin; and a table and chair featuring Structural Skin, reconstituted leather @jorgepenades created, from the designer’s Poli-Piel collection. @spuhz took these photos and @todd_knopke styled them.
