Another exciting winter festival happening the weekend of most of Japan’s snow festivals is the Shirakawa Daruma Festival! This year this festival will take place on Monday February 11, which is a national holiday! Shirakawa is one of Japan’s most famous areas for Daruma production - many of the Daruma you see in Narita airport are made in Shirakawa city! - so make time to come to buy your own Daruma for the new year. Daruma are Buddhist craft dolls which are closely related to Buddhism. When you have a goal you’d like to reach, you can paint in it’s left eye, and fill in the remaining eye when you’ve completed your goal!
