Shibuki-gori Ice Sculptures formed at the edges of Lake Inawashiro when waves are blown by strong west winds onto trees and shrubs along the waterfront. Because these natural ice sculptures can only be formed in very particular conditions (the wind must be strong, the surface of the lake cannot be frozen, but the air must be cold enough to freeze the water droplets soon after they make contact with the trees and shrubs) I felt very lucky to spot some a couple of years ago when I ventured to Inawashiro in winter.
