#SpeakingInDance | “It’s is almost like I’m spinning into a storm,” Bianca Berman said of this solo that she choreographed and will perform Jan. 26 and 27 as part of Ellen Robbins’s “Dances by Very Young Choreographers,” at @nylivearts. “Then there’s a dropping down and a force that pulls you away.” Bianca, 14, has been studying dance and choreography with Ellen since she was four and a half years old. “I love that Bianca’s movement is intense, it’s felt,” Ellen said. “You see her shift before she moves. She’s alive.” This solo is usually performed to music from the film @moonlightmov; but here, Bianca dances without the music, which, she realized, “can also be intense. You have to make sure that your movements are clear and sharp.” As for choreographing? “I can’t imagine myself not doing this,” Bianca told the #nytimes writer @giadk. “It helps with everything that goes on in my life.” @classiclydia made this video for #SpeakingInDance, our weekly series exploring the world of #dance.
