On November 3, 2018, @colinobrady, a 33-year-old American #adventurer, and @louisrudd, a 49-year-old British Army captain, disembarked to attempt something nobody had ever done — each adventurer was attempting a solo, unsupported, unassisted trek across #Antarctica. Harnessed to plastic sleds packed with everything they would need to survive for at least 2 months, they clipped into skis and began racing each other toward the Ross Ice Shelf – a 921-mile journey. They faced wind chill temperatures around -70 degrees Fahrenheit, whiteout days, unseasonable snowfall, isolation and pain. But on December 26, 2018, Colin completed the journey, 20 pounds lighter. Louis finished 2 days later and had lost more than 30 pounds. “I genuinely do love the place,” Louis said about Antarctica. “It’s harsh and can be brutal. A lot of the time when you’re there, you’re wishing you weren’t, but I’ll miss it, and will be thinking about it all the time. The great white queen.” #nytimes reporter @adamskolnick spoke with Colin and Louis after their journey. Visit the link in our profile to read reflections from both adventurers. Colin shot this photo in Antarctica. Swipe left to see 2 photos shot by @tamaramerino_photography of Colin and Louis after the trek and a photo shot by Colin during the journey.
