Video #arcades have been fading since the end of the #DonkeyKong ’80s. Yet somehow, Chinatown Fair Family Fun Center lives on. It’s one of New York City’s last arcades. “Chinatown Fair should have closed years ago, along with all the other arcades in the city, due to rising rent and the shift to online gaming,” said Kurt Vincent, who directed “The Lost #Arcade,” a documentary about Chinatown Fair. “But it’s still there on Mott Street after all these years because young people need a place to come together.” The arcade opened in the ’40s, but found its footing in the ’90s. After the arcade’s previous owner retired in 2011, Lonnie Sobel took over with a mission to bring out the “family fun,” adding classics like air hockey and driving games. What remains is a small business charmingly stuck between 2 eras. @markhartman shot these photos at #Chinatown Fair. Visit the link in our profile to read more.
