All #Broadway plays are complicated in their own ways. But “The Ferryman,” which opened at the Bernard M. Jacobs Theater in New York City in October, has presented extra logistical challenges. It’s not just that the play has a cast of 21 people, including 4 young children and an infant. Nor is it just that the characters enter and exit from 4 separate locations. It’s also everything else: the live goose and the live rabbit that appear at 2 crucial moments; the freshly sautéed bacon and the goose fat that is being used to roast the potatoes at the insistence of the director, Sam Mendes; and the table lamp whose shade erupts into flames. “It’s like a relay race where everyone is passing the baton, and you’re always coming offstage when someone else is coming on,” said Mark Lambert, who plays Uncle Pat. @sashafoto shot these photos backstage.
