Humans, even humans who don’t like glitter, like #glitter. We are drawn to shiny things. One theory is that our attraction to sparkle is derived from an innate need to seek out fresh water. So what is glitter? The simplest answer is one that will leave you slightly unsatisfied. Glitter is made from glitter. Big glitter makes smaller glitter and smaller glitter gets everywhere. But how is glitter actually produced? Most of the glitter that adorns America’s name brand products is made in one of 2 places in #NewJersey. The first, the rumored site of glitter’s invention, refused to answer any of our questions. The second is Glitterex. Glitterex is also very secretive about how its product is produced (even Glitterex’s clients are not permitted to see their glitter being made), but #nytimes writer Caity Weaver visited the factory to get some answers. @chrismaggio shot these photos of glitter. Visit the link in our profile to read more. #✨
