Late night journaling time with the musings of perseverance. We live in an instant gratifying era with shorter attention spans (as well as patience) and quick fix-its with practically everything being easily disposable, dispensable and discardable. Not just with stuff but sadly more often than not with each other. If it doesn’t yield the immediate results hoped for, toss it aside and find something better. How does one discover the true value of anything this way? A diamond isn’t instantly unearthed; it goes through an arduous process to pull out its beauty and brilliance. Its value is there and always has been but it takes hard grueling work to uncover it. Gardens don’t just become a fragrant oasis. There are weeds to be pulled, soil needing tilling, the light of the sun and the continuous care and watering day in and day out. This isn’t to say there aren’t things or situations to let go of because toxic environments can be deadly on several cylinders, but my thoughts tonight are more about how tossing out treasures have become a swifter commodity if the desired results are not delivered at breakneck speeds. I think patience stretches, it’s painful and can feel excruciating at times and it will push us beyond our wit’s end but it also grows strength, maturity, resilience and at the end of its tunnel before the next, a treasure awaits, often one that we’d never notice or value prior but one that becomes so invaluable and irreplaceable. Slow and steady wins the race. I’ll always be on team tortoise in that sense.
