Amassed over forty years, this unique collection of portrait miniatures is considered among the greatest ever assembled. From the collection of Dr Erika Pohl- Ströher – scientist, geologist, collector and museum patron – her interest in miniatures began with the serendipitous sighting at an art fair of a portrait of a young girl holding a doll. Its purchase marked the beginning of what has become one of the most important private collections of portrait miniatures, spanning major national schools and ranging from formal images of state to depictions of disarming beauty.
