To celebrate the news that @NASA’s InSight mission successfully landed on Mars today, we’re admiring this panoramic view of the surface of the Red Planet taken by the Pathfinder spacecraft – launched on 4 December 1996, Pathfinder arrived at Mars on 4 July 1997 and would pave the way for future Mars exploration rovers. From landing until its final data transmission on 27 September, the spacecraft returned 2.3 billion bits of information, including more than 16,500 images from the lander and 550 from the rover.
