We opened a bottle of 1820s Madeira – here’s how it tasted.⠀

In 2015, the Liberty Hall Museum in New Jersey discovered a secret compartment in their cellar containing almost three cases of Madeira wine from 1796, along with around 40 demijohns of 1820s Madeira in their attic.⠀

‘From demijohn number one on we were just flabbergasted by the quality of the wines,’ says Edwin Vos, our Head of Wine (@edwinvos2508). ‘I was honestly expecting a few small disappointments, but I was overwhelmed by their quality.’⠀
