❤️? We all know our next orangutan as an exceptional mother to our littlest orangutan, Redd: Batang! She is 21 years old and has a bit of a fickle personality, switching from sweet to sassy at a moment’s notice. Her role as Redd’s mother is an important one, as young orangutans nurse from their mothers for six to seven years. These apes have slow reproductive rates. In the wild, there is no social group structure to help moms care for babies. Luckily, Batang has Bonnie, Iris and Lucy to babysit Redd! Batang has been contributing to the Zoo’s milk repository since Redd was born, helping scientists determine how orangutan milk changes as an infant grows over the years. #OrangutanCaringWeek
