❤️? Male orangutans sport large cheekpads, called flanges—and our 21-year-old male Kyle has some impressive flanges! In the wild, dominant flanged males have a greater reproductive success rate. Males use long calls and displays to assert their dominance, and Kyle does both often! To make his presence known, he will bang on things that make a loud noise, swing on firehose ropes and toss his toys around. Keepers say the other orangutans are quite good at tuning out all the noise he makes and rarely seem impressed! #OrangutanCaringWeek
