Photograph by @andyparkinsonphoto/@thephotosociety British Wildlife Photography Awards habitat category winner - I’m pleased to announce that this image has been awarded as the category winner for the Habitat category in this years British Wildlife Photography Awards. This is the second consecutive year that I’ve won a category and the fourth time overall, having previously won the Animal Behaviour category twice and the British Seasons category once. Now it’s fair to say that this probably isn’t the most Instagram suitable image, the hare almost entirely obscured and consumed by the swirling spindrift and so viewed on a phone would certainly not be the most ideal way. Nevertheless it remains the most spectacular conditions that I’ve ever worked in and I was both privileged and fortunate to up on the high plateau alone. The hare was one with which I was already familiar, largely thanks to the endeavours of @tesniward and @kevmorgans, and so I was comfortable in the knowledge that I was able to both approach closely and shoot with a wide angle lens, @canonukbeautiful 16-35mm F2.8 I approached on my knees largely because I had to keep the lens out of the roaring spindrift, itself cascading over the plateau in 50+mph winds and I was amazed that this hare was even out feeding, the entrance to her expansive underground snow cave only feet away. Massive congratulations to all of the other awarded photographers as well. @andyparkinsonphoto @thephotosociety
