On the intimate @nycitycenter stage, @nycballet and @miamicityballet demonstrated principles of Balanchine style. The occasion was the first program of “Balanchine: The City Center Years,” a major festival, running through Sunday, that the theater has organized as part of a season celebrating its own 75th anniversary as an institution, paying homage to George Balanchine, one of the co-founders of the New York City Ballet. “Serenade,” the first work that he choreographed in America, was the first selection of the evening.
