Both Alberto and his brother Diego loved animals. ‘Le Chat’ was inspired by Diego’s many cats, who wandered around Alberto’s studio getting between the paintbrushes and plaster dust.⠀

This cast was acquired by Baroness Johanna Lambert shortly after she visited the artist’s studio in 1956. It has remained in her family’s collection ever since.⠀

Alberto Giacometti (1901–1966), ‘Le Chat’, conceived in 1951 and cast in 1955. Bronze with dark brown patina. 32 ⅛ in (81.5 cm). Estimate $14,000,000–18,000,000.⠀
