Protesters are keeping a 24-hour vigil in a makeshift shack almost directly across from a fracking site run by Cuadrilla Resources in Lancashire, #England. In 2011, Cuadrilla triggered small earthquakes while drilling in another site. The controversy stirred demands for more stringent safety measures as well as debate over the risk to water and green space in the English countryside. On Saturday, Cuadrilla began fracking again with a government-enforced go-slow approach. It has set up seismic monitors 3 miles beyond its dig to gauge tremors. Wary homeowners and environmentalists are watching closely. “To contaminate a major food-growing area for a little bit of gas is insane,” Celia Briar said. @andrew_testa took this photo while on #nytassignment.
