#WORLDMENTALHEALTHDAY. ❤️ I've been meaning to write something meaningful on this and it has taken me all day, so here it goes. I battled suicidal thoughts and depression since I was just fourteen years old, back when I used to cut myself as a coping mechanism. The inner dialogue and low self-esteem followed me through my early 20s convincing me that no one liked me and things would never get better. I want you to know that things can and do get better. And more to the point, you are not alone. I still suffer from anxiety every single day, but my mental health is stable, and I can honestly say that I am happy. I’ve learnt to read the warning signs and found ways to keep myself afloat, so I wanted to share these things with you in case it helps. ☀️Make a morning schedule Whether you go to school, work, or are self-employed like me, I’ve found that following a good routine in the morning makes all the difference and saves you from lying in bed feeling impending dread. ? Stay away from social media when you feel low or anxious. You are vulnerable to getting into an instagram black hole and comparing yourself to others ? Read. Reading a good book helps me to switch off from the world and get lost in another world. ? Walk or exercise. Whether it's Kobox, running, or a walk with your dog, get lost in nature. ? Write to-do lists. It helps you feel less overwhelmed and each tick is a small victory. ? Forgive yourself. Understand it's ok to be sad and sometimes you won't get everything done you'd hoped and you'll have to cancel social commitments. Allow yourself to feel sad. ? Talk to someone you trust.
