Last week was the birthday of my incredible friend, freedom fighter, and lead organizer of Black Lives Matter Los Angeles (@blmlosangeles ), Dr. Melina Abdullah (@docmellymel ). This joyous photo was taken during her birthday last year (Happy Bday Melina!!!). For the past few years I’ve had the great honor of working alongside her, and being inspired by her fierce commitment to liberation. (**action this Friday in LA at bottom of caption**)

Like many Black organizers in the past and of the present, Melina is being targeted for her political actions in an effort to intimidate and silence her through political prosecution. Like Angela Davis Assata Shakur, many member of the Black Panther Party, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and many others, the state is leveraging their power in order to squash the potential for justice and equality of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color).

They are charging Melina with 8 COUNTS in relation to her attendance of the weekly Police Commission meetings, dating as far back to 7/25/17.
