After a controversial match, @naomiosakatennis has become the FIRST Japanese player to win the @usopen Final.??? I’ve been covering the US Open since 7 years ago when I was a teenager, but today’s match was the only one where I just couldn’t hold back my tears. Naomi is one the most humble female athletes I have EVER met, and I wanted to see her raise the trophy with the cutest (and at times, dorky) smile that she always shows during press conferences and postgame speeches. I have mixed feelings regarding the unfortunate situation because it could have been handled in a different way... but Naomi, only 20 years young, to be able to play in THAT atmosphere under that amount of pressure, is unbelievable. She is a powerful fighter, believer and true winner. Naomi, you deserve to hold your head up high and be proud of what you accomplished. Congratulations!!❤️
P.S. I loved that you opened the lid of the trophy, just to make sure if anything extra was in there or not.?
予想していたUS Open Finalの熱い戦いとは少し違いましたが。。。大坂なおみ選手が日本人として史上初、全米オープン優勝を勝ち取りました。
私は10代の頃の７年前から全米オープンテニスを取材させて頂いていますが、涙がどうしても止まらなかった試合は今日が初めてでした。大坂選手は今まで出会ってきたアスリートの中でも本当に心が少女のままのピュアな方だったからこそ、とびっきりの笑顔でトロフィーを持ち上げて欲しかったです。
耳を抑えていてもうるさい程のブーイングの中でプレーし、「みんなセリーナを応援していたのに、このような結果になってしまいごめんなさい。」とトロフィーを手にして言わせた事に、スポーツマンシップとは何だろう？と考えてしまいます。テニスの女王のセリーナに決して気持ちも実力も劣る事なく立派に最後まで戦ってくれた大坂選手、本当におめでとうございます!!
P.S. トロフィーの蓋を開けて中をのぞいた大坂選手の少女さには、少し微笑んでしまいました。
