From this perspective the hill-top Neuschwanstein castle was surreal against the starry sky. The north star Polaris and Cassiopeia were hanging above the monument when an orbiting Iridium satellite flared in the sky during the long exposure. The light rays of the castle scattering in the sky, although impressive in this image, are a source of light pollution, a typical problem of many heavily-lit monuments in the world. Waste of energy that affect life of many species who need natural night environment.
Out of about 20,000 remaining castles in Germany, this one in the Bavarian Alps is an iconic landmark. The palace of Neuschwanstein (New Swan Stone in German) was built in the 19th-century, home to the eccentric king Ludwig II who was in love with artistic and architectural projects and spent all his royal revenues on these unusual castles. This extreme passion was used against him to declare him insane. He died young mysteriously at 40. Today, many of Bavaria's most important tourist attractions are left from his time.
