Would you ever eat food grown by a computer? Caleb Harper, director of the Open Agriculture Initiative at the MIT Media Lab, and his team built a digital farm to grow produce like tomatoes, broccoli, lettuce, apples, and more. To do this, they essentially coded a climate to create the ideal growing environment for each fruit and vegetable. His goal is ultimately to create a more flexible, collaborative food system that will transform how humans eat all over the world. “The future of food is about networking the next one billion farmers and empowering them with a platform to ask and answer the question, "What if?” says Caleb.
