Want to be happier? Slow down, says journalist and writer Pico Iyer. Easier said than done, of course. “Skills don’t just pop up because you wish to be more compassionate or happier,” he says. “It needs sustained application.” To practice, take 15 minutes a day to sit still in one place, and try to embrace where you are in your life right now instead of focusing on getting somewhere else. “Every day there are small moments when we have a choice: will we take in more stuff, or just clear our minds out for a bit?” Pico adds.
