This is Te Tara Koi Koia, a near mythical, pyramid shaped rocky island at the southern edge of New Zealand’s remote Chatham Islands @chatham_taiko_trust This is the only nesting site of the vulnerable Chatham albatross and spending 24 hours camping on this rocky fortress was one of the most memorable days of my life. Te Tara Koi Koia lies incredibly exposed at the mercy of the wild southern Ocean and landing is only possible on a handful of days every year. It took 27 days of waiting on a sheep farm on the main island (thank you Bruce and Liz for your hospitality) until finally a gap appeared on my very last day. With the help of many Chatham Islanders we managed to get on and off Te Tara Koi Koia safely with 100 kg of camera gear.
