Thomas Peschakさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Thomas PeschakInstagram)「I am currently taking a break after six months photographing across the Amazon basin for @insidenatgeo - right now I am focusing on just getting some chill time at home and sorting through tens of thousand of new images. In the meantime here is a photograph of a flatback sea turtle kicking up sand while covering up her nest on Crab Island, off Australia’s northeast coast. This 200-pound sea turtle is endemic to Australia and Crab Island is this species largest rookery. Unlike most other globally important sea turtle nesting locations, Crab Island is not a government gazetted protected area. The island is traditionally owned by the Injinoo people and it is the indigenous rangers of the Apudthama Land Trust who brave saltwater crocodiles and other hazards to monitor and protect Crab Island’s flatback sea turtles. Shot on assignment for @NatGeo in partnership with the Apudthama Land Trust.
