For the last two years, Louisville, Ky., entrepreneur Jim Patterson's 1937 Cadillac has been in a constant state of restoration. It now is in the final weeks of preparation for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Kentucky Derby of car shows, where it will debut next month. ⠀ ⠀ This one-of-a-kind Cadillac's story begins in Switzerland, where in the mid-1930s, a man from Lausanne wanted to buy the biggest, baddest car that could exist in that society, Mr. Patterson said. ⠀ Car manufacturers in those days did not always make bodies for their cars, but rather supplied the frame and motor, leaving the buyer to order a custom body. In this case, the original owner had a Swiss firm build the body. The end result was a 22-foot-long car with an equally impressive 16-cylinder engine. ⠀ ⠀ The vehicle was essentially left to rot for years following World War II, and Mr. Patterson believes it was imported to the U.S. in the late 1960s and underwent some restoration. It was kept in the @blackhawkmuseum in Danville, Calif., until it came up for sale three years ago. ⠀ ⠀ He immediately began a full restoration after buying it, and a tremendous amount of research has gone into finding out what the original looked like. Mr. Patterson found a former worker for General Motors who remembered seeing the car when it was first brought to the U.S. ⠀ ⠀ Privately, he has shown the Cadillac to friends in the car business. Their first reaction is always, "Wow, what is it? A Packard? A Duesenberg?" he said. It isn't. It's a Cadillac with a Swiss body.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Read more at the link in our bio. ⠀ ⠀ ?: @jasonckeen ⠀ ⠀ #cadillac #classiccar
