#MovementMondays Sandra Oh is a Canadian actress born to Korean immigrant parents. This amazing critically acclaimed actress has played many notable roles on screen & stage throughout her long career but may be best known for her role as Cristina Yang on the ABC’s hit medical drama Grey's Anatomy, which led her to win a Golden Globe, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and five nominations for Primetime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.” However, Oh has just made history as the first actress of Asian descent to receive a Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series” for her most recent starring role as Eve Polastri, an M15 operative who is obsessed with hunting down a psychotic female assassin, in the BBC America spy thriller series Killing Eve. Oh told LA Times, ““I am happy in this present moment,” Oh said. “Now, let’s move it forward. It’s a long game. Let this be a moment where some girl who is 12 and Thai American can look at her Instagram and say, ‘Huh, that can be me.’ Let this be a moment where she can believe in herself.” She also talked to New York Times on her historic nomination saying, “Let’s celebrate it, man. I’m serious, just celebrate it. It’s like, we’ve got to start somewhere. And I’m happy to get that ball rolling, because what I hope happens is that next year and the next year and the next year, we will have presence. And the presence will grow not only to Asian-Americans, you know, from yellow to brown, but to all our other sisters and brothers. Our First Nations sisters and brothers. Our sisters and brothers of different sizes and different shapes.” ?? Let’s make the change happen!! Sandra Oh - you are an inspiration. Congratulations!
