#NYTLoveCity | They’ve been in love for more than 70 years. “We met on a blind date on Jan. 13, 1945 — at 8:20 p.m.,” said Arthur Seftel, who grew up in Brooklyn and worked in the garment industry for many years. He and his now-wife, Rita, took the subway to the Paramount Theater in Times Square for a movie and then ate at an Italian restaurant. “We didn’t get home until 2 or 3 in the morning,” Arthur said. “Back then, nobody had a car, and the train was full of kids doing the same thing.” At 3:25 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, @jackdavisonphoto took this portrait of Arthur, who’s 90, and Rita, 89, in East Elmhurst, Queens. They’re among the New York couples he photographed that day who have been together for more than 40 years. @nytmag spent a full day with the city’s lovers. “By choosing this theme and so tightly limiting the time frame, they hoped to convey the city’s magical density of intimacies, the way it juxtaposes the private communion of one pair of lovers with the rollicking public energy of the bustling crowd,” writes Jake Silverstein, @nytmag’s editor in chief.
