5 nights and 2 afternoons a week on Broadway, @angelsbway sets out on its grueling, 8-hour course. It’s a knotty, furious history play, a jeremiad on the AIDS epidemic. At the same time, it’s a series of interconnected stories about love and betrayal and identity, God, man and Eros. Also, there’s a couple of Mormons. One of those Mormons, Joe Pitt, goes through hell and out the other side to come out as a gay man. And so, over the course of this production, does Lee Pace, the actor who plays him. The 39-year-old has been working steadily in theater, film and TV for the better part of 2 decades. He sometimes attracted attention but mostly disappeared into whatever characters he happened to be playing. “It was a real strategy to draw boundaries,” @leeepfrog told our reporter @matthewschneier. In interviews, he kept the focus on his work: “I believe very firmly that my work is the reason we’re talking, and my personal life is something I want to protect.” But in an effort to take back his own narrative after an article in @wmag made some headlines, he announced on Twitter this year that he was a “member of the queer community.” Visit the link in our profile to read more about @leeepfrog, who was photographed here by @mattelife.
