As the @MetCostumeInstitute unveils its latest exhibition, "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination", we’re reminded of this magnificent silver, gold, diamond and enamel cruciform reliquary-pendant, circa 1660, that we had the pleasure of selling in 2016. A centuries-old Christian tradition originally devised to preserve the actual remains of saints or objects that belonged to them, the present reliquary would have been used by pious 17th-century noblemen or women to hold religious items as well as memories or traces of their relatives. #SothebysJewels #MetMuseum #MetGala #MetHeavenlyBodies
